PETER W. MITCHELL is a New York based lighting designer for plays, musicals, opera, and dance.
He grew up in Minnesota where he pursued his passion for theatre design through training at the Children’s Theatre Company and the Guthrie Theater before earning his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University. Peter recently completed his MFA at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Department of Design for Stage and Film.
Recent designs include All’s Well That Ends Well and Pygmalion (NYU), The Cherry Orchard (Columbia Univ.), Trouble in Tahiti and Odyssey: A Youth Opera directed by Francesca Zambello (Glimmerglass Festival). This summer, Peter will be returning to Glimmerglass as the Lighting Supervisor as well as Lighting Designer for their Youth Opera premiere of Wilde Tales by Laura Karpman and Kelley Rourke, directed by Eric Sean Fogel.
